PHOTOS IN SONOMA
My client had a vast array of framed pictures of friends and family going back many years. She even had some very important vintage photos of great-grandparents. However, she was at her wits end trying to find places to display all these various photos in their chaotic assortment of frames. She was craving order and serenity. The solution: Three large collage-style frames with lots of openings of a fairly uniform size.
We went through all the pictures and pulled out a few that could go away in albums or didn't need to be kept. The frames were put aside to be sold at their next garage sale or re-purposed to frame pictures of their baby for family. All remaining photos were put in a pleasing order in the three large frames. The frames were mounted on a wall in her office. Gone was the distraction of so many frame sizes and styles. The uniform openings create harmony and the simple arrangement is easy on the eye. One can focus solely on the images displayed. The effect was an orderly, serene display of dear memories and precious loved ones.

ART IN L.A.
In the art room, making space for the artist's various projects was the key. This involved finding other places to store works of art that were completed. This client's emphasis was on having a variety of "in progress" work at hand. We made that the priority.

THE BIZ'NESS OF WRITING
The memoir project involved huge amounts of research. The client had collected a lifetime of personal history and needed to keep track of it all during the writing process. Lots of labeling, folders and upright sorting were needed. Once this system was established we continued to use the same system for any new material collected, always building on what worked best.

MAKING IT WORK AT HOME
I am a big fan of home-office projects. This one entailed creating a system where there was none, for tracking great influxes of paperwork. We did a good deal of sorting through what had accumulated to get caught up. But the biggest realization was that this office simply didn't have the needed file drawer space. Our plan included purchasing one small file cabinet, and modifying another existing drawer with the use of a wire internal file frame to create the needed files to track the paper-flow.
